Web Engineer
I'm a developer from Folkestone with a background in art and music. I create Enterprise CMS WordPress builds at London digital agency Shape Works, and build personal and freelance JAMstack sites in my spare time.
Web development satisfies some of my key drives: for learning, for analytical thinking, for creating compelling things, and for sharing with others.
A few personal/ freelance projects.
August 2020 - present
Engineer at a London agency delivering advanced custom website builds for professional services firms. My day-to-day tech stack includes React.js to build Gutenberg blocks for WordPress, PHP for handling backend logic, a Bedrock architecture for enhanced security and dependency management, and DeployBot for robust zero downtime atomic deployments. Besides building websites and providing ongoing maintenance and support to our retainer clients, I also produce the company blog (read my articles here).
June 2018 - August 2020
Building bespoke WordPress websites within a small design agency focused on ethics and sustainability, with clients primarily in the arts, education, and charity sectors. I was responsible for all web development, including maintaining >80 legacy sites, as well as UX design and client consultation. Projects I delivered include an events site for Canterbury Festival, an 'alumni hub' site for Canterbury Christ Church University, and a WP Multisite network for California based incentive travel programmers True North.
Self Employed
September 2017 - present
I have designed, developed and launched a number of client websites to date, from simple portfolio sites built on Vue or React to e-commerce sites built on WordPress. I pride myself on delivering end-to-end solutions for creative individuals and businesses who need an approachable, dependable developer who will take care of the entire website project while they get on and work.
2014 and 2017
Assisting in two consecutive major public art exhibitions. Leveraging my arts education, my local knowledge, and my extensive customer service experience to help visitors engage fully with the exhibition. Most notably, I took it upon myself to produce a YouTube video review of the exhibition which Creative Folkestone ultimately presented to many of the country's top art execs and curators.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council
January 2015 - June 2018
Handling emergency Lifeline calls from elderly and vulnerable clients. Also handling emergency Out of Hours calls for Shepway Council and Thanet Council. The role demanded efficient prioritising and rigorous attention to detail while under pressure, a level-headed approach to problem solving, and a passion for helping people to retain their dignity and independence.
I'm very family-oriented, and I love my hometown. Personal interests include songwriting, filmmaking, literary fiction, cinema, running, sea swimming, climbing, and following the UFC.
